OCTOBER
You’re nearing the end of the harvest season. October is all about cleaning out your garden. At this point the only thing left to do is remove old plants, and prepare the soil for next year. If you have compost, this is a great opportunity to add it to the garden. The compost does not have to be fermenting. You can actually put newly picked vegetables in the ground. The soil will break down any vegetable you bury over the next several months. It’s a good idea to spread a layer of mulch over your beds. This will keep the ground a little warmer, and fight off weeds.
Your gardening duties for the year can now come to an end. All that’s left is to sit back, relax and enjoy all of those canned vegetables.
